How to get there and local transport?

Mancora is located some 1,200 km (800 miles) north of Lima close to the border with Ecuador. There are daily flights to both Tumbes and Puira and from both towns there are taxis to take you directly to Mancora. The flying time is approximately one and half hours and the taxi journey from Tumbes is about 90 minutes and from Puira just over two hours. An alternative to flying is to take a luxury overnight non stop bus from Lima to Mancora. Once in Mancora the typical form of transport is by three wheeler mototaxis which are in abundant supply. Yet another alternative for international visitors, and especially those who are visiting the Galapogas Islands is to fly to Guayaquil in Ecuador and then by road to Mancora. The road journey takes approximately four hours.

Shopping?

Most foodstuffs including fresh fruit, vegetables and meat are readily available at one of the small shops in Mancora or at he local market which are all open daily. The seafood is excellent and fish can either be bought at the pier or in the local market. Lobster is not always available. If you don't feel like shopping you can phone the Roviluz in the pueblo who will send a mototaxi with your order. There are artesan shops in Mancora and at Las Pocitas there are number of people who walk along the beach to the local houses and hotels selling handicrafts. For those who simply cannot do without their foie gras, Argentinian meat, vintage claret or whatever the solution is to have the required goodies sent up from Lima by overnight bus. The transport cost is minimal.
